i been fighting in the shadows almost every day
but i had to get back so i could punch your face
just the wimpiest, awful-est gods around
from the top of the needle to the seattle ground
i said “i’m coming home, i’ll make it fast,
it’s been really tough, but this too shall pass”
and when you see me, you’ll yell:
“mike townsend is back!”

it’s been a long walk home but i’m finally here
i battled my demons and i have faced my fears
but i’m back in the city, and i’m feeling fine
but i’m gonna feel better when your fist meets mine
you said “you better watch out, you’ll be under attack”
but mikey’s here, and i’ve gotten real fast
and when you see me you’ll yell:
“mike townsend is back!”

you say, “mikey, what’s up with your throwing hand?”
i said i’d come back with some brand new plans
i’m throwing my best, and i’m giving my all,
cause i got a brand new signature fastball!

you’re looking at me like i’m a brand new mike
and something has happened so i think you’re half right
but the old mike’s here, and he’s ready to play
if you want my signature, you’ll get it after the game
“he’s throwing real good, do you think it’s an act?”
i say, “i’ll throw this one curved, and i’ll throw this one flat!”
and when you see me you’ll yell:

and also i learned how to solo!

they’ll be feeling down, if you know what i mean
getting taken out by this credit to the team
they’re gonna lose some, and then they’ll lose it all	
when i bend over and i pick up that ball
cause mike is here, and that is that
with pitches that are slow, and pitches that are fast
