I Love Birds

from I Love Birds by Coyote Wall

i love birds
i see em every day
i go down to the waterfront
and watch 'em as they play

i take a bag of peanuts
or a little crust of bread
and as they see me coming out
they poke their little heads
and they sing

la la la

i love birds
i follow where they go
through rain and wind and sleet and fog
and ice and hail and snow

they always know just where to lead
they never do me wrong
and when the night is cold and dark
i think about their song
and they sing

la la la

pelicans and parakeets
cardinals and chickadees
ravens, robins, rails and wrens
geese and gulls and guinea hens

herons, hawks and hummingbirds
ptarmigans and tanagers
i love 'em all, i even love
the ones that haven’t been discovered

la la la

and it means that everywhere
something that i love is there
i don’t worry, fret or fear
cause i know they are always near

and i love birds
i tell you this is true
i think the only thing that i love more than birds
is you

la la la
